Acoustic material

The acoustic inlays fromISOLED® consist of advanced, noise-absorbing material made from 100% recycled polyester fibers. Depending on the installation, the acoustic panels achieve a very high sound absorption value.

The H25 acoustic absorbers have been specially developed for our Track48 luminaire frames, while the H50 acoustic baffles are equipped with ready-made LED profile inserts or Track48 System components.

The surface of the acoustic elements has a smooth, fabric-like texture on both sides . The front side has a felt-like feel. The acoustic elements can be easily cleaned with a slightly damp cloth.

The acoustic elements are ideal for use in a wide variety of configurations as they are durable and resistant.

Acoustics

Why is sound-absorbing
lighting so important?

What is sound?

Sound is a form of energy that travels in waves but requires a medium such as air, water or solid bodies. Like light, materials can block, reflect or transmit sound, with certain structures attenuating sound waves. Sound is generated by various mechanisms such as vibrating vocal cords, loudspeaker membranes or mechanical motion.

Audible sound waves are perceived by our ears as noise and can be pleasant or disturbing, depending on intensity, frequency and duration. The human hearing range is between about 20 Hz and 20,000 Hz, with infrasound and ultrasound being inaudible but sometimes perceptible.

Image

What is the sound absorption coefficient?

The sound absorption coefficient indicates how effectively a material absorbs sound waves. This is measured using standardized test methods (DIN EN ISO 354) in a reverberation chamber. The sound absorption of a material is determined by comparing the reverberation time of the room with and without the material. The sound absorption coefficient is denoted by the symbol α (alpha) and lies in the sector from 0 to 1.

α = 0 means that the material reflects the entire sound incident on the surface of the absorber (no absorption)

α = 1 means that the material absorbs and swallows the entire sound incident on the surface of the absorber (no reflection)

Absorption 75 %
Absorption in sound is the process by which sound waves are sound waves are absorbed by a material and their energy is converted into heat.

Image
Sound absorption classes according to DIN EN ISO 11654

A α ≥ 0.90 (very high absorption)
B 0,80 ≤ α < 0.90 (high absorption)
C 0,60 ≤ α < 0.80 (medium absorption)
D 0,30 ≤ α < 0.60 (low absorption)
E 0,15 ≤ α < 0.30 (very low absorption)

Example absorption coefficient
α = 0,75

Reflection 25 %
Reflection is the throwing back of
waves on a surface without the waves
the waves penetrate the medium.

Office

Good mutual understanding is crucial both in meetings and in everyday working life. Room acoustics in offices are therefore crucial to ensure smooth communication. A low noise level is not only important for the speaker, but also makes it easier for the listeners to understand. Noise-reducing lighting promotes both concentration and productivity.
Image

Foyers & stairwells

Modern, minimalist architecture with materials such as glass and concrete is increasingly being used in stairwells and foyers. However, this design contributes significantly to sound propagation. Short conversations in the hallway and entrance area often generate a high sound level that not only echoes in the hallway, but can also be heard in adjacent rooms. Pleasant acoustics create an inviting atmosphere, particularly in the reception area.
Image

Schools & universities

To achieve the best possible learning success, it is essential to keep the noise level as low as possible. This improves speech intelligibility and makes it easier to listen attentively. The teacher's voice should be heard clearly and distinctly throughout the room. Good room acoustics allow the lecturer to speak more quietly, which is easier on the voice and nerves during longer lectures. The right acoustics increase attention and the learning effect in the classroom.
Image

Living area

In the home, acoustics are crucial for well-being. However, the use of lighting solutions with acoustic elements can also be of great benefit here. They not only reduce noise within the room, but also traffic noise from outside. A quiet living environment promotes relaxation.

We can offer you the suitable overall acoustic concept for your project!

We can create an overall concept for acoustic absorbers with integrated lighting for you to achieve a sound-optimized room. It is also possible to purchase pure absorbers and the necessary installation work.

Calculation example Open-plan office

Room details
» Floorarea: 50 m² (10 x 5 m)
» Room height: 3 m
» Entire area: 190 m²

Recommended absorption area (20%): 38 m²

Existing "sound absorbers"
» Computer monitors and tables: 4 m²
» Filing cabinets: 3 m²
» Other interior: 4 m²
» Needle felt floor: 15 m²
» Plants: 1 m²
Total production: 27 m²

Required area of acoustic panels: 7 m²

In order to find a suitable acoustic solution, the room details must be analyzed. Once the overall reduction has been calculated, taking the furniture into account, the required number of acoustic elements can be determined.

Image

Acoustic absorber H25

Illuminated frame with acoustic absorber H25 Sound absorption coefficient at 25 mm spacing from the ceiling or wall: 0.67
Required area: 7m² / 0.67 = 10.45 m²

Due to the double volume of the H50 absorbers compared to the H25 absorbers, they have an even higher sound-absorbing mass. We take this into account in our calculation example with a reduction factor of 1.5.

Dimensions Area per absorber absorber
320x1500x25 mm 0,48 m² 22 absorber
592x1500x25 mm 0,888 m² 12 absorber
500x1192x25 mm 0,596 m² 18 absorber
Image

Acoustic baffle H50

(suspended installation)

Sound absorption coefficient: 0.90
Required area: 7 m² / 0.90 = 7.78 m²
Required area taking into account the mass: 7.78m² / 1.5 = 5.19 m²

Dimensions Area per absorber Baffles
1250x400 mm 0,5 m² 10 Baffles
1500x400 mm 0,6 m² 9 Baffles

Acoustic baffle H50

(ceiling installation)

Sound absorption coefficient: 1
Required area: 7 m² / 1.00 = 7 m²
Required area taking the mass into account: 7m² / 1.5 = 4.67 m²

Dimensions Area per absorber Baffles
1250x400 mm 0,5 m² 9 Baffles
1500x400 mm 0,6 m² 8 Baffles

Use our calculator to easily determine the
required area for acoustic absorbers.

Calculate required acoustic absorber surface area

*Enter the simple front surface of all cabinets (width x height) plus the surface of all tables (width x length)
and the area of the largest side in square metres of other existing sound absorbers in the room, such as coat racks, armchairs, etc., here in total.

Thin-walled absorber bodies (material thickness <25mm) *

DĂ¼nnwandige Absorberkörper (Materialstärke <25mm) *

*(e.g. ISOLED acoustic absorber H25 suspended or mounted on walls at a slight distance) Zu den dĂ¼nnwandigen Absorberkörpern

Thick-walled absorber bodies (material thickness >45mm) *

(e.g. ISOLED acoustic absorber H50 suspended or mounted vertically on the ceiling) Zu den dickwandigen Absorberkörpern

Ideally, a combination of vertical, thick-walled absorbers is mounted between or above workplaces and horizontal, thin-walled absorbers are mounted on the ceiling or walls.
Please note that this is a rough estimate of the required acoustic absorbers. Individual environmental conditions and personal perception could lead to a higher or lower demand for absorber bodies.
