Soccer players have to be able to adapt quickly to different game situations, even when the daylight is fading and the weather is bad. This only works with the help of optimal, glare-free and uniform lighting. If a player steps out of the field briefly to retrieve a ball, ideally his eyes should not have to get used to different light conditions between the edge of the field and the field.
With the right LED floodlight system, you can perfectly illuminate your playing field. We can advise you on the requirements you need to consider for your project.
What are the requirements for soccer field lighting?
When calculating the requirements for soccer fields, the standard 12193 "Light and lighting - sports facility lighting" is followed. Compliance with the guidelines of this standard is usually important for obtaining subsidies. Important key data from the standard for soccer fields are illustrated here in our graphic.
Main area
In soccer, the main area is understood to be the designated "playing field".
The calculation grid specifies the arrangement of calculation and measurement points and their number in each direction of the reference surface of the main surface.
Total area
The total area consists of main area plus an additional security area outside this main area.
The calculation grid is also used to verify compliance with the set requirements for a new lighting system for a soccer field.
The photometric requirements depend on the lighting class
Illuminance
Horizontal illuminance is measured at ground level. There are requirements that, for the total area of the soccer field, the illuminance must reach ≥ 75% and the uniformity ≥ 75% of the value of the main area.
Glare & colour rendering
For the glare rating, a maximum GR value of 55 should be achieved. The GR (Glare Rating) is a calculation method for glare in outdoor areas. It is also important that the lighting ensures a high colour rendering index.
